Brushing your teeth is even more important when you wear braces.
Once your braces are on, you may wonder how you are going to brush your teeth through all of that hardware. Well it is possible. And not only that, it is even more important to keep up on your oral hygiene routine while you have braces. But how are you going to reach your teeth with all of the meal in your mouth? Dr. Lien Ngo has some pointers.
Without braces, you should brush your teeth twice a day for two minutes at a time and floss at least once a day. But when you wear braces, you should brush your teeth 30 minutes after every meal and snack.
- First, rinse your mouth. This will remove any loose food particles.
- Brush along your gums.
- Brush the tops of the brackets and then the bottoms. Don’t get in a hurry! You should concentrate on one or two teeth at a time, and brush in small circles.
- Brush along the wire.
Flossing can be a challenge. It can be tough to manipulate regular dental floss between your dental work. Talk to the dentist about using a floss pick, or floss threader.
It may be a bit of a challenge at first, but with a little practice and patience, you should get the hang of taking care of your teeth and braces in no time! If you have questions, give Brookside Dental in Placerville, California a call at 530-622-1987 and we’ll be happy to help!
